Longarm Quilting Service
Quilt pricing is determined by the size of your quilt and the complexity of the pattern. I charge by square inch.
- To determine the size of your quilt in square inches, measure the width and length (in inches) of your quilt top and multiply them together. This result gives you the total square inches of your quilt.
There are two different types of longarm quilting I provide:
- Edge to Edge - This covers the entire quilt with a single, simple pattern and one thread color. The cost is 2.25 cents per square inch. (Example: A Twin quilt that measures 60" x 84" = 5040 square inches. 5040 x 0.0225 [2.25 cents per sq. inch] = $113.40)
- Semi-Custom - This is a combination of a simple overall design with a custom border, all with one thread color. This cost varies from 2.5 cents to 5 cents per square inch.
Thread Information:
- There are many different types and colors of thread for you to choose from. I will discuss with you what will work best (and look the best!) with your quilt top. The fee for thread is $1.50 per bobbin. Additional charges will apply if you choose to have multiple colors of thread in your quilt. (Example: A queen size quilt, done Edge To Edge using one thread color is approximately $6.00 - $8.00 in thread.)
- Variegated thread is an extra charge of $5.00.
The prices above do not include batting, backing, binding, pressing, or labor.
Batting Information:
- Warm and Natural batting can be purchased if needed. Prices are: Twin - $30.00, Queen - $50.00, King - $60.00.
Binding Information:
- I use double folded fabric binding that is machine stitched on from back to front.
- If you have made the binding, it is 15.5 cents per linear inch for me to sew the binding on front and you stitch the back yourself. ($20.00 minimum)
- If you do not have the binding made and want me to make it for you, the cost is 30 cents per linear inch. You must supply at least a yard of the fabric you want used for the binding. Bindings will be cut at 2.75 inches. Any leftover fabric will be returned to you with the quilt. ($30.00 minimum).
Backing & Pressing Information:
- A fee of $15.00 ($25 for Queen and King sized quilts) will be charged for preparing the backing. (If the fabric is not prepared to go on the machine, I will sew it together and iron it.)
- The above fee will also be charged if your quilt is wrinkled and needs to be pressed before going on the machine or if I need to cut off a lot of hanging threads before quilting.
Other Fees:
- Labor $12 per hour.
- A label can be created for the back of your quilt for an additional $25.00.
I require the cost of the batting and/or backing as a down payment if I am purchasing it for your quilt. The remaining balance is to be paid when the quilt is finished or before I ship it back to you.
Preparing Your Quilt
- Each piece is loaded on to the machine separately, please do not baste your quilt together.
- Quilt tops must be clean. All quilts should be free of odors, stains, and animal hair. A $20 fee will be added for any quilts that need to be washed before quilting.
- All hanging threads must be cut off of quilt top and back. Hanging threads can ruin the look of the quilt and affect the needle going through the quilt.
- The backing and batting (if you're providing it) need to be at least EIGHT inches larger in both length and width from the top of the quilt. This is necessary for mounting the quilt on the machine and having enough backing available when the top is quilted on and stretched out properly.
- Do not create a border on the back of your quilt if you are piecing your backing. Any extra fabric should be added to the center of the backing, not on or near the edges.
- If needed, please mark the top of the front and back of your quilt with a safety pin so I know which way you want the quilt laid out.
- Please make sure your quilt is put together properly with no loose seams, ragged edges, or uneven borders. If I receive a quilt top that I feel I cannot quilt to my standards, I will decline it and return it to you at your cost.
- If you are shipping your quilt to me, please place it in a plastic bag to protect it. You are responsible for the cost of shipping.
